Late but it’s done. This segment I meant. Day Four is here and I won! I finished Mars and hit level 20 to start a new saga on my journey to… well, be better at Destiny.
I was taken back the first time I saw the Cabal. They were nothing like the previous enemies. Big, huge space marine type enemies. They fell easy enough, but posed a challenge once I started fighting Centurions. Mars seemed to go by quickly and before I knew it I had finished the game. The final level was long enough but didn’t have that “final” vibe to it. And that ties into my biggest issue with this game. It’s fun and I’ve enjoyed my time with it. But the story is just not done very well. I suppose it’s hard to create a good story driven narrative in this style of game where the levels are made up of sections of open world areas. The game, I feel, is at its strongest when it takes you into an enclosed environment and turns into a corridor shooter. Those areas during the story were great fun. After finishing the final level I went back and played through some of the more corridor style levels.
I hit level 20 with three story missions left. I enjoy playing missions when slightly over-leveled which is how that happened. I spent a lot of time on patrol leveling up and improving my gear. Once I hit 20 I just marathoned the last three missions. I decided to see what life after 20 was like and quickly got my first piece of light armor. I hit level 21 fairly quickly…and stayed there for a week until I finally decided to take it seriously and am now at level 25. I feel I will be at 25 for a while. I’ve played every mission, strike and patrol many, many times and while the gameplay is fun I’m done with what the game has to offer someone like me. I dabbled in the Crucible a bit and even got play a few matches with OverTheGun which was a good time for me. However, I will most likely shelve Destiny until the first expansion comes out and then see what’s up with it. I have probably about 40 or so hours into Destiny and have enjoyed it immensely. I’m excited to see what’s in store for my Titan next month. Overall I’d recommend the game although finding someone who has not already bought it would be hard. Good gameplay, so-so story, good presentation and somehow makes you play the same missions over and over and yet still enjoy it. Good game.
