Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Vita Graphics Comparison

Tips N4G

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 just came out on the Vita. I bought it because I had not played it yet. With big name titles not coming to the Vita as often I wanted to throw my monetary support at it.

I immediately noticed that it was not up to par graphically as other titles on the system. It looks washed out, kind of like playing a PC game on it’s lowest settings. With that in mind I fired up Steam and bought it on PC to make this comparison video. There’s a difference…

I should point out that the screenshots look worse in the video. The game actually looks fine on the Vita’s small screen. Once I got used to the graphics I had no problems putting hours into it and having a fun time.

My experience with Windows 10 so far.

I have been running the final, retail release of Windows 10 since the wee early hours of July 29th. I should mention that I was running the beta prior to that but will disregard my experience there and keep this about the final release that we are all now enjoying.

My morning on the 29th started off by me waking up at 5am. Not due to an alarm or anything that I set but because my body jolted itself awake at the sheer excitement of finally getting the actual release of Windows 10. I decided to race my machines. Desktop against Surface. I assumed my Surface would blow away my desktop due to the Surface having an SSD but it was closer than I expected.

Mid Year Gaming Report – 2015

Let’s take a look at how 2015 has stacked up so far. I haven’t played every game released this year but I have played every game I wanted to play so this is my personal list. Expect to see a lot of PS4 titles as that has been what I’ve played most of this year.

I’m breaking this down in my Favorites, Surprises and Disappointments. First I’m going to talk about my disappointments for this year so far and move on to what have been my favorite titles in 2015. Remember, just because a game isn’t listed does not mean I didn’t like it, these are just the ones that left some sort of impression on me over other games for one reason of another.

Redeeming DLC codes on used games. It’s very possible.

Something that I have noticed over the years is many people that pre-order games or even just buy new don’t cash in those code vouchers that come with the games to get the free DLC. Now I buy new whenever I can but I also don’t hesitate to buy used if it’s a good deal. I raid the local Gamestop every month looking for cheap games to add to my collection.

Many times I will get a game that still has the code vouchers for whatever pre-order bonus came with it. So I go home and right after I peel off all those Gamestop stickers I fire up the console and input the code like some kind of lottery. What I have found is most of time it has not been redeemed and I just scored some free DLC. Of the ones I have tried, only twice have I not been able to get the item, and I try a lot. Most of the time it’s only a new skin or a slightly better starting weapon but other times it’s been full games.

The time is right to buy a Vita.

From the moment I first learned of the Vita back in 2011 I wanted one. So why did I wait nearly four years to buy one? I’d like to think because I also waited four years to buy a PSP and felt the need to be consistent. But in truth I never really could justify the price until the Borderlands 2 bundle came out. Even then I was hesitant to spend the cash.

I felt I wouldn’t play it as often as I thought I would and didn’t want to waste $200 on a whim even though my PSP still gets a lot of attention. Also I was unsure about the library of games available for the system especially since big triple-A support has seemed to fall off.

Games I stopped playing. Volume 1

We all do it. We start a game with the intent of seeing it through and for some reason you just don’t finish it. That doesn’t mean it’s a bad game, it just wasn’t for you. Today I’m taking a look at four current gen titles that I just gave up on even though initially I really liked some of them.

Here’s a Question: Are video games ruining movies for me?

This is not really an opinion piece, more a personal reflection. I was thinking about this the other day. I was talking with a co-worker and they asked me about a few movies and if I had seen them. I had not. In fact I hadn’t seen a lot of the movies that he was talking about including any movie in the recent Avengers series. No Iron Man, no Thor, nothing.

I really want to see those movies for obvious reasons. However when I fire up Netflix to catch up on the older ones I just exit out and do something else. I have no real drive to see them. And that goes for a lot of movies. Even moves I know are good and I know I would probably really enjoy. It’s a mind think. I’m probably getting too cynical for my own good and it’s costing me. I will touch on why I think this is in a bit.

Is backwards compatibility necessary?

So I got into a Facebook war the other day for comments I made regarding Microsoft’s E3 showing, mainly the backwards compatibility (BC). I thought about it and wanted to talk about the need for this feature in current consoles.

A lot of people are looking forward to it and to be honest I would take BC over Sony’s streaming service anyday. They both address the same, or similar, need but with BC you still physically own a copy of the game. That’s huge for me. Another advantage of it on the XBone is the very well documented reliability of the early Xbox 360s. The later ones are fine but if someone has an early model that dies then this could be a viable option if they already have an XBone as well.

Dark Souls 2 New Game Plus. Why you so good?!

In anticipation for Bloodborne I fired up Dark Souls 2 and decided to jump into New Game Plus. I had no idea this game had Falconers in it. I immediately found out.

I also found out about the increased damage. While my build was still capable of dealing substantial damage my character was no longer capable of taking it. I would go down easy, much easier than I expected. But that is ok, it challenged me to take my build into a different route. I decided to focus more on defense this time around since offense was pretty well sorted at this point.
